School Age Childcare - After School Clubs

"I'm too big to go to childcare" - Have you heard that expressed by your 8 year old? That statement is probably justified; School age childcare has often found children 8-12 years intermingled with younger children. While compromise is a great attribute, older children often compromise their own development to secure the safety of the younger children in the group.

In 2002, Little People's Workshop opened it's first exclusive school age club. The Dr. A. T. Brace Childrens Centre located at 170 Campbell Avenue in St. John's, Newfoundland is a 1300 ft2 play area equipped with school age children in mind. Children follow their own lead and plan their own time. Their choice to work on the computer, build an amazing block structure, play a board game, or paint a deatiled painting is theirs. To make it more interesting they may sign up for clubs such as the Little People's Workshop editorial staff, the green team club, chess club, or craft club.

The staff of this centre are level III early childhood educators. Staff hold degrees in education as well as early childhood courses. Outside play time is available each day.
